Glad y'all made it through the storms. Still random downpours here. It doesn't seem to end. Many places are STILL maxed out and if a decent rain comes it is a mess.

Nice and cool sounds great. Texas weather is just like Tokyo. Hot and humid. The first time we visited a typhoon came through. We needed the day of rest (so much walking) and after it felt so much better there. Was freaky being on the 40th floor of a building made to sway during earthquakes moving around from the wind. Felt like a cruise ship. BLEH.

Agreed time is moving too fast in many ways. In other ways I wish it would go faster though. lol

yeah, hot an humid as a way of life....when I got back even florida wasnt humid enough for me (I had nose bleeds for years!)....supposed to be another hot one today, but then we get a break for a few days.
Never liked being in high rise buildings...not here, not in japan....so tried to avoid them as much as possible. (and yeah, went thru quite a few typhoons while I was there...think we had like a dozen or so the 2nd year I lived there...was a record breaking year if I remember correctly...was on number 6 or 7 in APRIL...dont miss them at all!)...and a year or so after I got back got to be in Wilma visiting my mom in florida...think I can do with out typhoons and hurricanes, thank you very much.

made fiep some pretzel for his birthday (ok hubby started them, but I had to actually make them pretzels )....like having the aroma of bread in the house....YUM!

Yep Texas is basically always hot and humid. Much like Tokyo. That sucks about the nose bleeds!

I love and hate high rises. Looking over Tokyo is pretty awesome though, especially at night. Would sit in the window and just watch often. Incredible view. The typhoon was awful though, earthquake wasn't too bad. Having to go through a dozen would be obnoxious. There was so much umbrella carnage after this one. I'm sure the manufacturer loved it. A few trees were down here and there. Amazing how fast they clean things there these days tho. After a day you couldn't tell anything had happened.

Homemade pretzels?! I love that smell. On the way ......

my vertigo doth not like high places, and I was just never a fan of tall buildings, even as a kid (always thought the sears tower was going to fall over and hit us--even though we lived 20+ miles south of it ...way in the 'burbs!)
earthquakes are not so much fun either....was in Nagoya for the big one that hit up in Niigata/Nagano (7.?)...and felt it enough to try and find a place to hide (didnt work so well, cant fit under a kotatsu ) and felt a few good ones that made me think a whole caravan of large trucks was driving down my little street.... Always knew when there had been a good enough one---my kitchen cabinet doors would be open. Certainly do NOT miss those!

the nose bleeds stopped after about 5 years --finally got re-used to the low humidity in the usa (even texas and florida were not humid enough for my nose!)....I can still remember the first month I was in my new apartment and went to put on some nice shoes only to find the shoe horn I had was rusted (it was stainless steel)....and learned why they use plastic for everything!! (plastic doesnt rust, lol)

It's hot and humid here sometimes. But then other times, not so much. And then half the time it is freeze your balls off weather. Woo...

Homemade pretzels sound great... Want to bring me some? lol

My mother-in-law has vertigo. Not a fun thing to have, that is furs ure.

Don't usually get nose-bleeds. Last time I got one that I can remember was when I was going from air conditioning to hot humid weather all day long. Was moving computers into the air conditioned library from un-air conditioned classrooms... I got to take a break in the library till it stopped though! So there is that.

I dont believe fiep will let them out of his sight so unless you want to come here.....

the nose bleeds were in the morning...with all the allergies I have I sneezed and then ... would stop after a bit, but the next morning...again....for a while I thought it would never stop, but after a long time (years) I finally didnt have them anymore. (still had the sneezing though :/)
supposed to be nice the rest of this week...will be nice to have it not so hot for this weekend (with the holiday et.al).
When I was in japan, they had the a/c on so cold during the summer...if you had glasses on they would steam up! and you would freeze ...and then when you went back outside you would almost die from the humidity, not a good thing at all.

I remember reading about a study they did there---in the winter they dont have central heat either, so they only heat one room (or usually us the kotastu--a table with a heating element and a futon blanket)...everyone would crowd under this table/futon ....but this was the ONLY room they heated....the rest of the place was whatever it was outside (minus wind)...so going to use the w/c was hazardous to your health as the temp in there was in the 30's (or 40's)....the shock of that temperature change may cause heart attacks!! ---so the study says!! I remember winter there as well and yeah, it got pretty dang blastedly frigid in the bathroom! (I got a 2nd heater so I could heat that part of my apartment...just too cold brrrrr).
SOOOO glad for central air and heat!

Dang... I could always talk my wife into making the mini pretzels. Those are pretty good as well.

Yikes, those nose bleeds sound like exactly zero fun... Glad I don't get more of them.

My wife says we must have central air and heat. It is a must, non-negotiable. I just nod and say yes ma'am. Central heat I need but I have survived on window mounted a/c units. They just are less comfortable.

I'm going to try to convince my wife to make them for this weekend. We will see how it goes...

Been cooler the past couple days. But no rain. We are in some serious need of rain here...

will send you some of our 70+ temps (rarely does NOT get above 70 here in the summer)

and to end our little time here I quote the opening scene of prophecies (with a slight change )

Quote:
Narrator: "The last day dawns on the Kingdom of GuildWars Guru."
Narrator: "It arrives with no fanfare, no tolling of alarms."
Narrator: "Those who will remember, will speak fondly of the warm morning breeze."
Narrator: "People carry on with their daily lives, unaware that in a short while . . ."
Narrator: "Everything they have ever known will come to an end."
seemed appropriate

We want your rain... Haven't had any in quite some time here... Could really use some... Will send you are 90's temps in exchange!

I will miss this place... I have enjoyed visiting this place for 11 years now and I will miss coming and chatting with everyone here... I'll still pop over to Guru2 from time to time but it isn't as active as this place was or is. So long GWG, the greatest forum I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of...

True. But others might be confused.

We might get some rain tonight. Maybe. Crossing my fingers and doing my rain dance...

Happy birthday! (Almost birthday?) I hope you enjoy it!

I was being nice and vacuumed the apartment this afternoon. I caught my iPhone 6 charging cord it in and destroyed it... So now I have to get a new one. Then I saw how much of my wife's hair was in the brush, so I decided to clean it. Got the seam ripper and went to work. Then I stabbed myself in the hand... That is what I get for being nice...

lol....a pair of scissors works much better on the hair brush (having hair down to my butt I know about these things).
Think you should just stay on the couch or in the bed with the blankets pulled up and pillows all around you for a day or so!

I think we would monopolize the OT thread over there and like here, folks would just stop posting and we would again have a home all to ourselves

and thanks....at least they have fireworks here for the next few days to take my mind off the sadness (of both guru and my age).

I was told to use the seam ripper by my boss and not to use the scissors... So ya... Oh well. I got it done in the end.

That might just work! Ya never know...

Fireworks are great, usually. Get to see some Monday night for sure!

Welp this will be my last post here... It has been a lot of fun all. Hope to see you all over on Guru2 once in a blue moon.

Adios all...

you can use regular old scissors (not hair scissors---), usually you should only use scissors on certain things like paper, hair, etc--using them on other stuff dulls the blade (and if you use hair ones on others, you will not make a nice cut--more jagged--when you use them on hair again).

nice fireworks.

see you on the other...side
